Sometimes we don’t think of “ourselves” as being the very reason why we don’t see good blessings come our way or have answered prayers. Our first and probably only thought that crosses our mind is “God’s not listening. He is ignoring me.” instead of “Am I blocking my own blessing?”. Know this…. He is listening. In fact he knows exactly what we want or need before even praying about it. So, this does boil it down to us possibly blocking our own blessing.
Lately I’ve been blessed to see many of my prayers get answered. Some of those prayers have even been answered on the same day I spilled my words out to God. It’s not always like that though. I also have dry seasons… but now I am able to see why some of those season were dry. I can truthfully say that for the past year or so of my life I had been living for the flesh instead of the spirit. Because of that God was holding back my request and blessings. He was wanting me to confess, be authentic, and live one life in him. Instead I was not repenting or confessing, I wasn’t being genuine with my relationship with Him, and I was living a double life.
“7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:7-8 (NIV)
These past two weeks God has been pushing me to read Romans 8. Service after service, Pinterest post after Pinterest post, and conversations with friends – Romans 8 kept popping up. I finally said “ok God, I will skip over my reading plan that I currently have on Romans and jump to Romans 8.”. Man was he clear to me when I read this. When I was living by the flesh I was being disobedient to Him. I wasn’t fully surrendering to God and therefore I wasn’t ready for his blessing nor for my prayers to get answered. Think of it as a parent/child relationship. Are you going to give your child the candy or toy they have been wanting while they are misbehaving? No! I don’t think you will. You’d be doing more harm than good by giving that child gifts when they are not obedient. This is the same concept with God. We are His children.
I know that when my daughter misbehaves I want her to apologize and for her to be specific with her apology and recognize what she did wrong. Thats what God also wants us to do when we sin. He wants us to confess and he wants us to do that so that he can heal us and set us free from that guilt and shame that comes with sin.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIVUKSo can we block our blessings by not confessing? Yes, you can. God wants you to recognize and repent. When you start to do this genuinely you begin to show love towards him. You begin to bring joy because you are taking the steps to start your healing. God needs for us to be faithful and whole to be able to receive His plan for our life. Why? Well because His plan for us is greater than what we can imagine and bigger than what we can handle IF we are living by the FLESH and not living by the SPIRIT. So today I want you to take a few seconds or minutes to confess your deepest and most hidden sins to Him. Remember that He already knows the darkest corners of your heart. He just wants you to know them too so that he can start purifying your life.
Don’t be the one to block your own blessings.
xoxo,
The Bold Chic
