Archie Sheridan & Gretchen Lowell
review 1: The continuing relationship between Detective Archie Sheridan and infamous serial killer Gretchen Lowell. Archie is recovering from his last adventure which culminated in the flooding of his Portland town after chasing down our previous killer. He's healing, found a new home and a possible new relationship, but soon that is disrupted when a body is found flayed in the park one morning. Soon it's a chase to find our latest killer who has a surprising connection to Gretchen. On the whole I enjoyed this latest installment of the series. We focus once again on Gretchen which is so much more interesting than the killers of the "week". Her past comes out to play and that really helps to flesh out her motivations; while all the answers aren't revealed we get a better sense of Gre... moretchen and her killer past. I just wished this had been explored in earlier books as all these other serial killers located in this one area with Gretchen providing insight is starting to wear very thin as a premise. One major aspect of her past and connection to the latest killings I found to be a little corny but it did serve to bring out some more character development in Archie and freelance journalist Susan. At the end of the day I've found the series to be thriller cotton candy and a fairly quick read.
review 2: this installment answered a lot of my questions about certain parts of the series but also left me wanting more. It really made up for the more disappointing aspects i found in the previous installments. One thing I really hated was the sort of push for Susan and Archie to become a couple. Even though it failed, I was kind of hoping that Susan would get over the whole father figure fetish. I'm also a little disappointed that her personality doesn't seem to be changing despite having undergone multiple traumatic events with no reasoning other than sloppy character development. less
