Are You Going To Be A Princess?

Hello my friends!

So I am officially one week away from starting my internship with the Disney College Program and I could not be more excited! I distinctly remember the euphoria I felt as a little girl – briskly stepping off the ferry boat, practically tossing myself through the turnstile, then finally standing on Main Street U.S.A, soaking in the magic that was Cinderella’s Castle. At 21 years old, I can honestly say I still experience that same magic; except now, it’s perceived a bit differently.

You see, when you are an adult, life gets much more complex than it was when you were a little girl. Dreams that seemed so achievable as a child, get lost in the chaos of working and studying and being healthy and running errands and doing housework and just being plain BUSY. As I got older, I slowly started prioritizing the American dream over my own personal goals: take the job that gives you most money, get a degree in something versatile, be organized and scheduled rather than spontaneous and free. But in the midst of all this, I still feel that Disney magic. Why? Because Walt Disney built his company on the idea of standing strong in what you believe in, and never giving up on YOUR goals.

“When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably”

Walter Elias Disney

As much as I would love to give the Mouse Man all the credit, in the end, I have to give it all to Jesus. Over this past year of really deepening my faith, God has shown me that my goals and passions do not have to be put on the back-burner in order to be successful. In the Psalms, he literally tells us that he is rooting for us, and he wants us to achieve our dreams!

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart”

Psalm 37:4

I know what you are thinking, and no, my dream is not to be a Disney Princess (although that would be PRETTY cool). My dream is to bring joy and laughter to those around me. My dream is to motivate and encourage. My dream is to be a shining light in an otherwise dark world. My dream is to work for a company that is rooted in these philosophies, and here i am… one week away from achieving that dream.
