Batman Nightwalker By Marie Lu – Spoiler Free Review

I was lucky enough to be sent a finished copy for review from the publisher. I saw all the hype around Wonderwoman Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo and knew I had to get hands on the next book in this collection. Superheroes aren’t usually my thing but I thought maybe young adult novels was the way in for me. So let’s get into the review…

My only real experience with Batman is watching The Dark Knight so I’m not sure if I really knew enough information about the series to read a prequel but I coped just fine. I think if you have no knowledge about Batman, you might struggle slightly. One thing that struck me was how much the book grabbed me. I didn’t want to put it down. It reads just like an action movie in the way that you’re sat on the edge of your seat and can’t wait to see what happens next. I think this is partly due to the fact that the book wasn’t too long and it only stems over a short space of time.

This intensity was matched by the characters who I really enjoyed reading about. For me though, it was Melanie who stole the show. No one does mysterious, cunning and overlapping epic like Melanie does. They character of Barman felt freh and new whilst still paying homage to the classic character everyone knows and loves. It was nice to see his more teenage angsty side rather than super serious business side.

What I loved most about the book is the reading experience, it felt just like an action t.v show or movie and didn’t drag at all. I have a copy of Wonderwoman Warbringer and I’m excited to see if the stories interlock at all. I would be more than happy to read another book about Batmans teen years but I have to say Marie Lu wrapped the story up really nice. Now I’ve read this and Warcross by her, I’m excited to see next from her or I might even read her be catalogue. I know she is a very well loved author and it’s easy to see why.
