Thoughts

Note: I received a free e-copy of the book via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review

After going through a few reviews, I did see that some opinions claim that abuse victims aren’t like how the author has portrayed them. Even so, I could really relate to Lily’s self-esteem issues as a non-victim in real life and I loved seeing her grow in the book. It was the character’s journey that made me give this a 4-star rating. Also, the cover is beyond gorgeous.

Recommendations

I’d recommend the book to readers who love to see a good brother-sister relationship and for those dealing with self-esteem issues not necessarily stemming from abuse.

For the music, I’d recommend some ambient outdoors music with the rustling of trees, a bonfire crackling and other such noises, which I feel would go very well with the main setting.

Forests always remind me of berries since I’m a vegetarian and those would be the only edible things for me if I ever went into a forest without supplies, so I’d pair it up with something like blueberry pie or a strawberry tart.
