review 1: An unusual HR where the heroine is a widow who contrives to get pregnant by an available stud. She hates the male body and dislikes men in general. Lady Russell is rigid, devoted to women's causes and 21. She is quite unlikable for a while in the book but the hero who has been banished from London for frivolous behavior is quite likeable. Theo and Martha have huge character flaws but during the 30 days of planting his seed they both evolve during their clinical relationship . Seeming impossible that these 2 extreme opposites could ever agree on anything is a challenge the author set for herself and managed. Secret assignments, coupling like a business, frustration, temptation and fulfillment and seduction as well as gradual respect for Theo help Martha awaken. ... moreBut Theo also becomes a man who still retains his charm but cares for more than a snuff box. A few times the Point of View was a bit confusing as to who was speaking. Also Martha was so darn annoying initially I couldn't give it 4 stars. But for a unique read try A Lady Awakened.
review 2: DNF'd.I was excited to read Cecilia Grant, since I'd seen her say some interesting things.Alas, her writing isn't to my taste.Took me a bunch of sittings to get through the first chapter.I decided to opt-out halfway through the fourth chapter.Writers voice is dreary and dull; the characters are uninteresting, combined with the author's subtle-as-a-trainwreck moralising with the characters really didn't suit my tastes.-- Well. I guess the conflict between the characters might've been interesting, if one is all-play and the other is no-play. But I found both characters were so obnoxious, that there was no promise or hint of improvement for the story.Ah well. less
