Creepy, violent, other-worldly… If any of these descriptions appeal to you, you’re going to want to read this book.
C. S. Boyack has created an eclectic and rich assembly of characters whose lives intertwine in the most unexpected way. Gina and Gupta make a fascinating pair of heroes who walk in two worlds. Chloe, her family, and her new friends paint a frightening and somber picture of modern interpersonal relationships. Muscle-for-hire Clovis operates in a morally gray area, and his decision at the end places him squarely in my “one of the best characters ever” column.
This story is about oblivious family, bad-influence friends, technological terrors, nefarious gangs, and supernatural horrors. From the opening word to the very end, readers find themselves in a world that’s at once unfathomable and all-too-believable.
If you like compelling characters, fast plots, rich settings, and fascinating intersections that bring everything together in unexpected and satisfying ways, this is a story you won’t want to miss.
