ROAD TRIP!

In this installment of The Morganville Vampires, we’re headed out of town for a crazy and dangerous road trip. The book is full of peril and bizarre happenings (per usual) but I have to admit that I liked the book getting us “out of the house” for a bit but towards the end, I was happy to go home. It’s hard to keep interest in a series by keeping the plot in one setting. So this was a nice break.

Also, I loved that it was easy for me to come back to this series. I’d taken a three year hiatus and to be able to pick right up where I left off was enjoyable. Rarely, can I do this easily with series without having some memory lapse issues. This was not the case and I’m glad for it.

Part of me got to thinking as I was reading this book that Claire has really grown up. I have to say that I was not a huge Claire back when I first read about her. But it’s nice to see now that our heroine has gone through a huge transformation and bloomed with time and experience. The girl who started out as a mousy pushover is now smart, cunning, sweet, loyal and strong woman. Claire’s growth as a character has been slow, but steady and impressive.

Also, I loved the development of the relationships between Shane/Claire as well as Michael/Eve. But I’m worried that Michael and Eve won’t last because I have a feeling Michael may end it in order for Eve to have normal things like children, which he can’t provide. I have worries about Claire and Shane but I won’t voice them so I don’t jinx anything.

One of the main reasons I love this series is because no one is pining away for the vampires. Oh no, people are TERRIFIED of them. Oppression kind of sucks (pun intended) for our crew but it’s what makes the series. Because in Morganville, you don’t get to run far because you’ll get caught. In a way, I get why the road trip was a nice little break from being inside of town, but honestly, I never felt stifled by having to stay in Morganville. Half the fun is watching these kids try to outwit the vampires who watch their every move. Plus, I love the moments of dark comic relief in dire times. I have yet to make it through a book without finding several moments which make me crack a grin.

On the whole, not the best Morganville has to offer, but still an entertaining , strife-filled read.
