review 1: Books are always about someone who's special or something special happening. There are very few books that are about normal (everyday) things. Joey Harker, the main character in this book, is very special. In the multiverse that he lives in, the copies of him are special. Of those copies, he is the most special. Special special special. I'm struck by how convenient this makes everything. I've been noticing that a lot recently. Stories fit together. But that's the way fiction is, and that's the way history is, the interesting bits, at least. The thing about this book is that I walked into it (haha, if you've read the book the abnormal use of walk is funny) thinking it was written by Neil Gaiman. The first book was co-written by him and his name features on the cover. But it... more doesn't say "written by Neil Gaiman." That's because it is not written by Neil Gaiman. It seems that it is suggested by him, at best. I have to admit that I, myself, haven't read enough Gaiman to decern a difference in the writing styles. But it was a bit of a let down anyways.Still an interesting book. A little annoying when the title is thrown into the last chapter in some dialogue just to make the title make sense. Otherwise, sound.
review 2: Don't be fooled, Neil Gaiman's name is on this, but he did not write it. (Much as I suspect was the case with Interworld) There are some fun characters, and some weird worlds, and an adorable Hue, but they are handled less expertly under Mr Reaves writing. It just felt clunky and embarrassingly predictable. I didn't hate it, but it didn't blow me away either. Still compelled to read the next book. Still resent said fact. less
