Halloween is fast approaching, and as a fan of horror, I’m sharing the creepiest, spookiest (book) titles that have been reviewed here on the blog in case you’re looking for suggestions for books to read with the lights on. To find even more suggestions of what to read (or watch) in this genre, you can go here to find what has already been reviewed in horror here on the blog. We’ll have at least one or two more horror themed reviews coming up this month in honor of Halloween as well.
In no particular order here are the creepiest books to have been reviewed here on the blog by either Miss Shayne or me.
The horror classic Dracula by Bram Stoker is a must read for every horror fan. However, be forewarned that everything you thought you knew about how the famous story of the vampire named Dracula went down is actually far from the truth. Creep/spook factor: 3 out of 5 lights on.
Though teen fiction, Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell is one of the creepiest, most twisted and disturbing horror stories that I’ve read. The possessed Victorian corpse dolls are sinister and depraved. The villain, hidden in plain sight, is mega warped. And the suspense will cause your heart to pound. Creep/spook factor: 3 out of 5 lights on.
The Hallie Michaels series by Deborah Coates is a trilogy of which the first two titles have been reviewed here on the blog. It’s a heart pounding, extremely well done, supernatural, horror story with vivid characters and terrifying frights. Creep/spook factor: 5 out of 5 lights on.
The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon is creepy, haunting, and tragic with a classic horror story twist ending. Told in sections that alternate between the present day and events that transpired on the Harrison Shea farm a century before, the terror of brutal vengeance exacted in the past casts its long shadow over those in the present. Creep/spook factor: 5 out of 5 lights on.
If you’re a fan of horror who is looking to cut their teeth on graphic novels, then Through the Woods by Emily Carroll may appeal to you. This graphic novel tells a series of eerie, twisted tales illustrated in haunting, lush pictures. Creep/spook factor: 4 out of 5 lights on.
