What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil.

The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him?

Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series

Here be spoilers…

It has been a while since I finished Book 4, but this month, I finally decided to give City of Lost Souls a crack, and I was pleasantly surprised. This book had a greater thrill to it than the other books, leaving me on the edge of my proverbial seat wanting more. This book contained more heart gripping and fast paced chapters which made me shed a tear or two.

In the 5th instalment of the Mortal Instruments series, we see the book centre on the relationships of our main characters. Izzy clearly loves Simon, and Simon clearly loves Izzy- and watching the pair dance around their feelings is frustrating, yet this book finally sees the two realising their feelings not only to themselves, but to each other as well. I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP.

Alec annoyed me in this book, I won’t lie.  I mean, yes the concept of living together forever is a marvellous idea, but unless Alec is willing to transform into a down-worlder, then he really needs to let that ship sail.

Maia and Jordan is a whole load of weird and messed up- but in a kind of cute way.

And the Seelie Queen and her meddling ways seriously needs to get lost… like ASAP.

Clary and Jace…

I cried… and I cried hard. Evil Jace as he is known when he is bonded to Jonathon Christopher Morgenstern (Fake Sebastian), has run off with said Sebastian creating all sorts of havoc.

They come back for Clary, Jocelyn nearly kills them, Luke almost dies when attacked by Sebastian and Clary joins team bad guys to spy on them.

Jocelyn, I have a few words for you…

I feel like I’m watching an episode of Jeremy Kyle.

Overall, the plot is so well thought out and fast paced that I read it within a few days! The ending was good, yet I wish it didn’t end as abruptly as it did. I felt that it could have been expanded a little more. But nonetheless, I loved it all the same.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, the whole series in fact. Clare has a way of making the reader feel as if you are part of the book, hurting when they hurt and laughing when they laugh. It takes a truly talented author to make you feel so involved.
