In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that one of the non-album songs coming up would be chronologically out of order. This is that song! Across the Line should have gone after Minutes to Midnight. I don’t have a good reason for writing about it out of order. I wasn’t as good as I thought I was at keeping track of all the non-album songs, and I was just super excited to write about New Divide and A Thousand Suns. Technically, I could write about this song later on my journey because I didn’t hear it until 2012. However, my plan was to write about these songs in chronological release order. Now that I’ve established that I should have written about this song two weeks ago, I can actually tell you about it.
Across the Line was another of those songs that were recorded during the Minutes to Midnight sessions but didn’t make it onto the album. In an LPU chat in 2009, Mike Shinoda said, “Across the Line just baaarely missed the cut. If there were 12 songs, I think it was #13.” (Linkinpedia) This song was included on the LP Underground 9 CD, released in 2009. Like the other songs that were recorded during the Minutes to Midnight era, Across the Line has the same sound and feel. Again, this song is a little dark and gloomy. (I know I’ve used these terms a lot when talking about Minutes to Midnight, but that is what I feel when I listen to those songs.) Even though this song is bleak, the energy and fast rhythm make it seem less so.
I don’t have any stories or memories that go along with this song. I just wanted to share it, in case you hadn’t heard it.
