review 1: I was really hoping this was going to be a new multi-book zombie series I could enjoy for a while, but unfortunately it didn't work out. It's not that the book is bad, it's just not quite for me. For the first 40% of the book I found the "voice" of the main character too snarky and annoying. The constant internal monologue that read like a beginner's stand-up routine just wasn't necessary, especially since aside from the snark the character was actually pretty likable. The worst part was that about 40% into the book I got my wish - the narration voice changed. Unfortunately, it wasn't a change for the better. From there to the end of the book we were head jumping between several different characters, which was extremely disjointed and further reduced my enjoyment of the st... moreory. Between that and some truly bizarre plot points, none of which were explained in this book, I lost all interest. Needless to say, I won't be reading the other books in the series, though I might go to read the reviews just to see if there are some explanations for the oddities in this book. But here's the thing. Even though this sounds like a bad review, I'm really not trying to pan this book. It wasn't my style, but it had a lot of elements that many readers of this genre enjoy. There is a lot of gore, gun battles, close escapes, and some new supernatural elements that may seem refreshing or, at the very least, novel. And if nothing else, there is the character of Tommy, who is extremely endearing. My recommendation would be to sample the beginning and if you like that, give the book a go.
review 2: Kind of a fun book; not great, not bad. Mostly told in first person by a survivor with an extremely sarcastic wit. It's funny at first, but it gets a little old as you continue to read. I may continue the series, but I'm not sure yet. As I said, it fun enough that I wouldn't mind reading more of it, but I don't feel overly compelled to dive right into the next book. So, we'll see how I feel after I take a break from it. Damning with faint praise, right? less

fun take on zombie apocalypse. Tommy is the best invention. Talbot's love of his dog also hilarious.
