Dust and Heat. They don’t mix!

With the recent cold weather across the country we have been experiencing our heat on more then we like.  A lot of us maybe be wondering why is my throat scratchy or my sinuses acting up.  This blog may help you understand and help with some tops. So let’s begin.

When we use our heat the air is dry.  When you have a dry heat people experience allergy symptoms.  Cough, sneezing, etc. The main reason for this is because of the dust.  Dust will appear from anywhere.  Sun coming in, moving around, forced air or just from our body.  Human nature.  What can we do?

Here’s a few tips to help you out.  Change your filter every month in heat mode.  Vacuum your baseboard and small areas like the entertainment center for dust.  Don’t use a feather duster, they create more dust.  When vacuuming vacuum the return air duct and vents as well.  Big dust collector.  Lastly if you have a heat pump and air handler unit have a tube up on them once a year.  And ask yourself when is the last time you had your duct work cleaned.  Believe it or not you should do this about every 3-5 years depending on animals and and smoking.

Remember allergy symptoms usually start at a place and then clear up.  For example work to home or opposite.  For more information feel free to contact us anytime.
