Surprise Surprise… my first High Tea in the Overberg was in Gansbaai. Destination Blue Goose. Set in Franken Street in a hundred year old limestone fisherman’s cottage not far from the Gansbaai harbour the High Tea tradition was echoed by the historical interior of the restaurant. Owner Riaan pulled out all the stops and dusted the Royal Albert china to make sure we had nothing to worry about except perhaps a little extra weight post tea time.
Tables wobbled under mouth-watering treats and tea boxes were presented with a vast variety of options. As luck would have it Hemel-en-Aarde winery, La Vierge, presented their wines for tasting and I had Jezebelle Chardonnay before Earl Grey was poured. From 15:00 till 17:00 chatter filled the room while sweet and savoury flavours were tried and tried again. I’ll be back with more friends as this Overberg secret is one phenomenal experience that should be shared.
Blue Goose, 12 Franken Street Gansbaai Tel 028 384 1106. Open for dinner. Next High Tea will be served on 6 July 2017 at R125pp.
Big thanks to Glenda Kitley for treating me to this special event.
