Grandma’s Cinnamon Rolls

My Grandma is the best person I’ve ever known, if not the best person in the whole world. She is such a sweet, godly, loving, generous, strong woman. I love visiting her because there is just a feeling of peace that washes over me when I see her. She lives in a big, beautiful log house in the woods that my Grandpa built for them. I’m not sure what it is about taking a trip to the boonies that makes me feel so calm, but it does.

I think I adore my Grandmother so much because she embodies everything that I want to be when I “grow up.” Of course I’m already a grown up, but what I mean is, I feel like I still have a ton of growing up to do to reach everything that she is.

She sews beautiful quilts, and she participates in her church, she bakes and cooks amazing food (duh!). She is the Grandmother of 8 children, and great grandmother of 6; and she loves us all to pieces. She is such a busy woman, in fact I don’t think I have ever once seen her bored! She always has something to do, and if she doesn’t, she finds something to do.

I have so many sweet memories of her from when I was a kid. I used to go to her house for weeks during the summer and I loved it. She taught me how to bake and sew and I definitely cherish those memories. I looked forward to it every summer vacation and if I’m honest, when my kids get out of school every June I still get that nostalgic feeling that pulls me to the woods..to Grandma’s.

A few months ago when I went over for a weekend visit, I thumbed through her recipe books and saw this one, and it immediately brought back memories of her amazing cinnamon rolls. I must admit that before that I had never actually tried my hand at making cinnamon rolls. But man, am I glad that I jotted down this recipe because it is AMAZING.

Forget the store bought cinnamon rolls, and forget the instant ones that come in a can. These cinnamon rolls are so worth the time and effort! My batch made 16 cinnamon rolls, and I think they were gone the next day. My kids loved them, my husband loved them, the neighbors loved them. Everybody adored these cinnamon rolls. Since the recipe does make so much, I would suggest halfing it if you don’t have a big family (or neighborhood, haha) to feed.
