review 1: My first venture into works by this author. He had a large segment of shelf space at the library, but after I had checked this out, I thought, "lots of books on the shelf: not checked out being read...hmmm." It was a good enough read. Starts off like a lot of other books: one good possibility as to the true killer, but enough ambiguity to keep things moving. Ultimately, two separate cases woven together because of mistaken presuppositions. Early on the author spent a lot of time and too much dialogue explaining intricacies of the legal system that most readers already get. It started to get a little tedious, how several of the characters figuratively and literally wrung their hands about legal matters that could be dealt with much more efficiently. Lots of crazy in the cha... moreracters.
review 2: Hmmm...can't decide if I liked this or not. Probably liked it b/c I'm thinking about it. At first, I was really bummed that the book didn't end 50 pages to the end, but the sort of predictable twist at the end did bring some closure to the book. I thought some of the chase/"I know he did it" parts dragged and felt like the middle dragged out until a decision was finally made to nab the guy, already. Didn't completely understand why ALL the "important" officials were characters in the book-some didn't add much to the plot, although I realize that in real life all would be involved in a high profile case like this. less
