Landscape & Architecture

In my work I used the rule of thirds in the first picture because for me the focal point in that picture is the upper part of the first and the second tree and the second tree is about in the third of the picture. In the first picture I used a lot of motion as well because the snowflakes are falling and I caught them in the exact same moment. There is also some contrast in that picture moytly because of the blue sky and the blue looking snow farther back in the picture and the yellow/ orange light because those two colors are opposite colors on the wheel of colors. The fist picture also shows a lot of lines and shapes and rhythm with the trees, they all look really similar and are in a line. To me the second picture also includes the rule of thirds it is harder to tell but since the focal point in this picture is the right window at the bottom which is not centered more in the third.

The challenge during taking the first picture was that it does not end up looking too dark because the sky looks really dark and the focus is the light and the snow which is pretty bright so te background appears drarker. So during editing this picture I focussed on trying  to make it look less dark and emphasize the contrast in color. Obiously another challenge with taking the first picture was catching the falling snow flakes in the picture without making it look blurry. ( First I had another picture I took and really liked for this assignment and edited it, but then I took this picture and I loved how I captured the falling snow flakes so I choose this one.) The challenge for the second picture was trying to find a focal point in this picture, because I wanted to take a picture of the whole house and there was a lot going on in the picture with the walls of this house and the color differences. During editing the second picture I highlighted the windows a little to show the focus in the picture a little more.

My pictures show a lot what my neighborhood in Idaho looks like and they capture winter moment. To me they represent winter and architecture in Idaho. It gives me a cozy, farmy winter feeling. The picture show more or less the same to me or mean the same but they don’t tell a story when you show them together. Because they are taken of different subjects and at a different day time. They also have way different colors.
