Hi everyone! Somehow I found the time in October to read a few books so I’ll share them with you in this post. In total I read four books this month. Well three books and then I finished reading one of my textbooks which I’m totally counting as a book. It’s on Goodreads so it counts! Feel free to add me on Goodreads, by the way. So with these four books that brings my reading total to 50, which was my Goodreads goal! This was so nice to meet because I was so sure I wasn’t going to meet my goal once school started to pick up. I may only be in school part time but it feels like full time for sure.
Even though I met my Goodreads goal two months before the end of the year, next year I will likely have a much smaller goal. Maybe 25. It’s just because I don’t want to feel too stressed to meet that goal while still in school. But let’s face it, I’m a reader at heart so I might read more than that anyway.
Okay, so let’s get to the books! I’ll start from the least number of stars to the highest. I rate on a Goodreads system (one to five, whole stars only). In the cases of those books with the same star rating, I’ll go in the order read. Here we go!
Understanding Financial Statements by Lyn M. Fraser and Aileen Ormiston 3 out of 5 stars
This one you saw in my School Books post. We finally finished the financial accounting portion of the class and have moved onto managerial accounting! I’m so relieved for that as I had to take financial twice in undergrad. True story. That class and microeconomics kicked my butt. Managerial accounting and macroeconomicss somehow were a breeze. Back to the book.
I liked Understanding Financial Statements because it was very simple to read and understand. The examples were great and I can see why my professor picked it. It wasn’t always the most helpful though, there were plenty of things I had to Google for the homework so I didn’t rate it higher but overall it was a great book to start off with. I gave this book three out of five stars.
Don’t Judge a Girl by Her Cover by Ally Carter 4 out of 5 stars
You’ll have seen a whole review of this book already as well. I did like Don’t Judge a Girl by Her Cover a lot. This is the third book of Ally Carter’s Gallagher Girl series that I’ve been rereading. I am determined to read and review this entire series! I first read this years ago when I was in grade school and I love going back and reading books I haven’t read in years.

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy (Book Two) – Review Here
I don’t want to spoil anything but essentially we’re following Cammie, the main character, in her journey as a spy-in-training. In this book, things are getting real. While in the previous two books the adventures have been school assignments and tests, Cammie is getting real experience now. It is really getting interesting now! In this one Cammie and Macey are nearly kidnapped and spend the rest of the semester trying to find out who tried to kidnap Macey and why. The rating I gave Don’t Judge a Girl by Her Cover four out of five stars.
One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake 4 out of 5 stars
This book is the second in Kendare Blake’s Three Dark Crowns series, the first of which was actually Three Dark Crowns. I loved Three Dark Crowns so I had to pick up One Dark Throne. I did not expect it to be this good! I totally thought this was a duology because in my mind there is almost never a good enough reason for a series to be more than two books these days so the ending was disappointing as it’s clearly meant to go on. I have talked a bit about my feelings on that whole thing but I really dislike that every book seems to be forced into a long series. In fact, most stories can be wrapped up in one book. Max of two. But it seems all are stretched out far too long. Ah well. This book was great!
If you didn’t read Three Dark Crowns I don’t want to spoil it for you but essentially there are three sisters who are queens. Queen Mirabella is an elementalist, controlling the weather and elements. Queen Katherine is a poisoner, who can ingest any poison with no consequences, and can easily poison others. Queen Arisone is a naturalist, connected to all things nature including plants and animals. However only one sister can be the Queen Crowned and must scheme to kill the others during the Ascension Year to do so. In One Dark Throne the Ascension Year continues as the sisters continue to try to meet their objectives while surrounded with suitors, events, and learn many secrets concerning themselves and those close to them. I did give One Dark Throne four out of five stars.
Only the Good Spy Young by Ally Carter 4 out of 5 stars
I made it to book 4 of the Gallagher Girls series! I just finished this one over the weekend (yesterday actually) so I haven’t reviewed this one yet but be on the look for it next month. The series is getting really good now! I’m super invested in the characters and the story and already requested the next book from the library. My library does not have it but another one does that is in a group of libraries that mine is a member of so they’ll send it to mine to pick up and read. I can’t wait!
There is another kidnapping attempt in this one but this time Cammie is the target. The security at school is heightened and Cammie learns that she cannot trust even the people closest to her. After encountering danger surrounded by MI6 agents in London with Bex, she can feel danger closing in around her. I can’t wait to do a full review for this book and read the next. I gave Only the Good Spy Young four out of five stars.
