NEWS: Full Casting Announced for Long Day’s Journey into Night

The full casting for the West End transfer of Richard Eyre’s production of Eugene O’Neill’s play has been announced. 

Following its successful run at the Bristol Old Vic, Richard Eyre’s production of Long Day’s Journey into Night will transfer to London’s Wyndham’s Theatre from the 27th January for a limited season.

Joining the previously announced Jeremy Irons and Lesley Manville, who will be reprising their roles in the London run, will be Jessica Regan returning to the role of Cathleen, having played her in the 2016 Bristol Old Vic production. Matthew Beard and Rory Keenan will also  join the company as Edmund Tyrone and James Tyrone Jr .

Following its West End run, the production will then transfer to the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Harvey Theater (8-27 May) and theWallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts in Los Angeles (8 June – 1 July).

Matthew Beard is known for his performances in films such as The Imitation Game,The Riot Club and The Look of Love. He made his stage debut in Skylight (Wyndham’s Theatre) starring Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award when the production transferred to Broadway.

Rory Keenan is best known for his performances in popular television programmes such as Peaky Blinders and the recent BBC adaptation of War and Peace. Meanwhile, his stage credits include Welcome Home Captain Fox directed by Blanche McIntyre (Donmar Warehouse), Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me directed by Michael Attenborough and Liola directed by Richard Eyre (National Theatre).

Jessica Regan recently played regular Niamh Donoghue in Doctors for the BBC, for which she has won Best Newcomer at the British Soap Awards. Her previous stage credits include  Liola for the National Theatre (directed by Richard Eyre) and Stars In The Morning Sky for Belgrade Coventry.

The production’s creative team includes set designs by Rob Howell, lighting by Peter Mumford and sound by  John Leonard.

Long Day’s Journey Into Night will play at the Wyndham’s Theatre from the 27th January until the 8th April 2018.
