Witches

By Ednah Walters

Runes #6

Young Adult, Mythology, Supernatural

The Norns think they’ve won,
but it’s hard to control a teenager,
let alone a powerful one…

Raine Cooper’s life should be perfect. She’s an Immortal Seeress, most likely to be elected Prom Queen, and envied by the girls at Kayville High for dating the dreamy quarterback, Torin St. James. Instead, she’s haunted by the smug facial expressions the Norns’ wore during their last meeting.

As a Norn-In-Training, Raine crossed the line long ago when she sided with the Valkyries and Mortal Witches. When the Norns return with demands of their own, Raine feels trapped. Torin tries to convince her that the Norns are manipulating her, but she refuses to listen. At least until the Norns’ demands focus on someone she loves. When Raine refuses to cooperate with them, their punishment is swift and gut-wrenching, turning her pain into fury.

Raine plots revenge on a massive scale and makes deals with unsavory allies. Her goal? Total destruction of the entire Norn race. Raine’s only hope of salvation is Torin, but how much will he sacrifice to save her?

Goodreads

I have been with this series for a while now, I remember getting the first book as a Christmas present a while ago. I read Runes and was fascinated by the story , I love mythology and I don’t have many books center around mythology. I loved the characters, how feisty the girls and guys were, the personalities were so fun and a met Torin St. James for the first time and he made me swoon.

It’s been a few years now and I still feel like this world is new to me with new facts being uncovered but I feel like I know the characters so well. I have through a lot with them and not only did I get Raine’s pov but Cora’s as well which gave me a better perspective of the story.

Witches is the sixth book in the series and Ednah really out did herself on this. First I had gotten a little ways into the book and I kept saying this scene feels familiar to me and I remember different things and didn’t this event already take place. Ednah manage to tell the same story in Souls ( the fifth book in the Runes series) told from Cora’s perspective and told it from Raine’s perspective in Witches. The same story on a similar timeline but told with a different story. I don’t know if I am explaining it right but what Ednah did was pretty amazing.

The gang is back trying to fight off all the people and creatures standing in their way. Raine is still fighting the Norns but she has also found herself and sees the protector she is meant to be. While things are changing for Raine’s love, Torin as well, he has to deal with new aspects of his job as a Valkiyre and help Raine fight the Norns. However through all of that Torin and Raine’s love grow even more and it is quite beautiful. I will say that there are parts that just make me love Torin even more (if that was at all possible) I mean I couldn’t help but swoon.

Witches was a fun intense read and I could wait to see what happened at the end. It was loaded with jokes, fiestiness, love, stubborn determination, kindness and with a little bit of heartbreak. Raine has made her choice and she has taken a stand and I would have loved to read the final book with Raine and Torin. My heart goes to Ednah and her wonderful stories. I am looking forward to reading what I believe is the final book in the Runes series, up next is Goddess.
