October Wrap Up! (It’s very late I’m sorry)

Hello! Yep, it’s me, I still exist. I’m so sorry I’ve been the laziest book blogger of all time. Senior year is tough, stress, college, scholarships and all. However, I have amazing news! If you follow me on twitter you already know, but I was accepted to Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia! It’s a very expensive college, so I was lucky enough to be awarded a huge scholarship. It’s not full ride, but it’s enough to help a lot. I’m so excited for what next year will bring. Anyway, lets get to the books I read in October! It’s not too many because again, I’ve been busy and stressed, but I still manages to read a few!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

….yikes. I wrote a full review you can find here. If you don’t want to read the whole review, basically I hated it. That is all. NEXT.

Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake

Y’ALL. Y’all. YES. I LOVED THIS. I’m going to write a full review closer to the release date (It comes out in March!! Get excited!!) This lovely queer middle grade novel teaches young people that confusions and questions about your identity are nothing to be ashamed of, and I just loved it to pieces. I absolutely cannot wait until everyone can read this!

Zero Day by Jan Gangsei

So this was a book I had to read for a Battle of the Books club at my school. It’s about a girl who was kidnapped when she way 8. She resurfaces at age 16, when her father is now the president. There are many questions and speculations about her disappearance and sudden return, and it kept me guessing the whole time. (Though, I am notoriously bad at guessing plot twists) Overall, I really enjoyed this!

Depression and Other Magic Tricks by Sabrina Benaim

I got this book because her poem “Explaining my depression to my mother: a conversation” went viral and popped up on my Facebook feed. I absolutely loved that poem and while I did love other poems, I’d definitely say that viral poem was the best poem in the book. I didn’t love the entire collection as much as I had anticipated, but it was enjoyable.

That’s all for October. Sorry this went up two weeks late!

Happy reading,

Jessi.
