Review: Blood Fury

In this sexy paranormal romance novel set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward tells the story of two couples—both fighting to find love in the midst of the war with the Lessening Society.

A vampire aristocrat, Peyton is well aware of his duty to his bloodline: mate with an appropriate female of his class and carry on his family’s traditions. And he thought he’d found his perfect match—until she fell in love with someone else. Yet when his split-second decision in a battle with the enemy endangers the life of another trainee, Peyton has to face the idea that his future, and his heart, actually lie with another.

Novo, as a female in the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training program, feels like she has to prove herself to everybody—and she has no interest in being distracted by falling in love. But when Peyton proves to be so much more than a rich playboy, she is forced to confront the tragedy that has broken her soul and closed her off from love.

As the two grapple with Novo’s past and Peyton’s present, another couple must contend with a connection that is unparalleled—and potentially scandalous. Saxton, who has had his heart broken, discovers in himself a deep-seated attraction to Ruhn, a new member of the household. But will the other male explore the connection? Or will he close his mind and his heart to what could be true love . . . and cost Saxton everything?

Alright!

It’s time for Blood Fury, another addition to the Black Dagger Legacy series!

In this installment, Blood Fury focuses on Peyton and Novo, two of trainees in the Brotherhood fighting program. Novo is one of those women who wants prove to everyone that she has what it takes to be tough and fight as well. Peyton is the son of an aristocratic Glymera family and since his introduction has been in love with his best friend and fellow trainee, Paradise, who already in love with someone else. However, as you recall in Blood Vow, we saw sparks fly between Peyton and Novo but both refuse to accept the attraction. For one thing Novo sees Peyton nothing more than a spoiled rich boy while Peyton tends to flirt with her while also suffering from having to work with Paradise with his feelings.

In Blood Fury, we finally get to learn more about Novo from her backstory, family, and what led to her to close off her hearten order to forget and avoid getting hurt again. Peyton has his own troubles to bear that include his father and his emotional state that leads to Novo getting injured in a field exercise while trying to protect Paradise. Little do they know that this incident is just the first step to get through their individual issues and realize their feelings for each other.

Now in case you’ve forgotten, the Black Dagger Legacy series also includes another couple but from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and the lucky ones this time is Saxton and Ruhn. Saxton is Wrath’s solicitor, who was once lover of Blay, and is still having trouble getting past the heartbreak of that relationship. Ruhn is Bitty’s uncle has moved into the Brotherhood compound with Bitty and the others. While trying to solve a dispute over a piece of land, Wrath sends Ruhn as Saxton’s bodyguard just in case and while spending time together, they discover that they’re starting to have feelings for each other.

Overall, Blood Fury was another excellent addition to not only the Black Dagger Legacy series but Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Honestly, I don’t think I can ever skip a book from the Black Dagger Legacy series especially when there’s a chance to get a new story from the previous couples of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Not to mention we get two separate story lines running side by side. Peyton and Novo’s story was sweet but predictable. Don’t get me wrong, I loved their story especially since we get to see totally different sides of Peyton and Novo that we never saw in the previous books. However, I’ve been waiting for Saxton’s story and here I thought we were going to have to wait a couple of more books before getting it. I’ve always felt bad for him ever since he and Blay broke up especially since Saxton’s not a bad guy. So it was really exciting to see him fall in love again especially with Rhun who has a dark past that still bothers him. Thankfully, Saxton’s there to help him get through it.

Unlike the last installment, it’s still unknown who the next trainee couple will be. We got hints of possible choices but that’s it. Makes you wonder who J.R. Ward has in mind for the next installment. Now we just have to wait a couple of months for The Thief which is another one that I’m really looking forward to.
