Review: Since You’ve Been Gone

It was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list.

On it, thirteen Sloane-inspired tasks that Emily would normally never try. But what if they could bring her best friend back?

Apple picking at night? Okay, easy enough.
Dance until dawn? Sure. Why not?

Kiss a stranger? Um…

Emily now has this unexpected summer, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected), to check things off Sloane’s list. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go skinny-dipping? Wait…what?

Since you’ve been gone by Morgan Matson is the perfect light read for when you don’t want to stress out about finding any secret meaning in the plot. I truly enjoy it but it’s not the kind of book that will stay with you for months after your reading experience.

This was a wonderful fluffy and enjoyable story, sadly I don’t have that much to say about it since not that much happen even if the book is 450 pages long. The pacing was great, it didn’t feel like the story had to be drag out for the amount of pages, which is a nice positive.

As for the writing style, it’s nothing out of the ordinary, Morgan Matson writing is not bad, it’s fine but unremarkable. I REALLY REALLY REALLY DID NOT LIKE THE LOOOONG CHAPTERS. Why did the chapters had to be so frecking long, seriously? I’m sure this type of writing will be awesome for some people, but for me, I need more then this to be in love.

The characters now, what to say about them … Emily Oh Emily, she was a sweet, shy, introvert girl, everybody can find parts of themselves in her It was just so weird to way she was dependent on her best friend. I know teenage friendship can feel like the center of the universe, but it’s not. She still had her family that loved her dearly but all she cared about was Sloane. But then she forgot all about her once she made new friends. She’s basically the kind of person who can’t live on her own, she need others to feel complete.

Sloane was a bitch and not a good best friend at all. Frank was cute, way too nice for his own good. I like that the romance was a slow burn one. I can’t stand insta love. Dawn and Collins were good side characters.

I would have to say that the end felt a little bit rush, some of the issues were not talk about at all. Which leave room for interpretation for the reader.

In the end, Since You’ve Been Gone is a good book, not memorable but good. I would recommend it for those of like stories about friendship, cute slow burn love. It’s perfect to read by the beach under the sun even taught I’ve just read it in the middle of winter, it was nice in winter too, made me miss summer.
