This blog has, so far, been really knitting-heavy. Today we’re going do the “…and more”…part.
My whole life, I’ve always wanted to be a painter. I was obsessed with Monet and french Impressionists when I was like, 10 years old. I had this awesome book and an aunt that let me loose in the art museum that didn’t help. Now that I have kids, I admit I’ve used them as an excuse to get back into painting more often.
I try to have “art time” on days we don’t have a morning rush. I want to make the kids valentines this year, so with this weather and the table already being papered, I thought why not today?
My oldest loves to paint, he’s my artsy-fartsy kid, he’s my Renoir. My youngest is a bull in a china shop, she’s my Pollack. Me, I’m trying to learn watercolor…again.
The kids have IKEA and dollar store water colors and cardstock. My youngest has a set of stamper-markers from IKEA as well. My set up is Koi Water colors with water pens. I’m not really a fan of water pens, but it’s less clean up when I’m already cleaning a set of brushes. Last night, we made a cookie castle so the table is covered with dollar store butcher paper. I buy that stuff almost in the quanity I buy milk. I use it for everything: wrapping paper, table protection, afternoon killers, science projects…
I let the kids go wild for their stuff, I mainly try to direct how not to make a puddle on the paper. For myself, I want to make the kids knitting/yarn-themed Valentines. Maybe as the years go on, my cards to them will get more polished…For now, this will do.
Now it’s lunch time.
