review 1: I have to say I loved it, it's a little different from what I'm used to, but it was a lot of fun to read. Mercy is a shapeshifter, who works as a mechanic for a gremlin, and is fixing a vehicle for a local vampire. She also lives next door to the Alpha of the local werewolf pack, and a few sparks fly there. It's quick paced, and full of action, but I really loved the attitude on Mercy. Well worth checking out.
review 2: Overall a decently written novel. It was a quick fun read but there just some things that nagged at me. First, I am so tired of female characters who have only male friends. I mean seriously she's the only female in the book. And of course some of it is because she's sooo special that the other women are jealous. Excuse me while I play a sad son... moreg for you. Barf. I mean this is the kind of thing insecure Jr. High schools say. I don't trust a woman who doesn't have female friends. Really. Second, fucking guns. Honestly, I am over the gun affairs. Third, veiled sexism justified by "Hey they're werewolves." Yeah time for some new friends sweetheart. Maybe some female ones. Fourth, why do all the men want Mercy? Let me just say "Anita Blake." This trope of all the men wanting the one woman gets old for me. I get that maybe it's some women's fantasy but it really makes the character seem like an asshole esp. when written in the first person. Fifth, the ending was so damn so convoluted that I read it three times, and I still have no effing idea what was going and I am a damn fine reader. The plot twist made zero sense, and really seemed like an awkward set up for wait for it..more guns, more Mercy saving the day, more men getting hot about Mercy using her special talents. Blech. I'm going to try one more because I liked the writing for the most part (minus horrible ending) but I'm not sure if I can handle anymore "I"m the best female" ever kind of stuff. less
