My friend Meagan introduced me to C.L. Wilson last year and I’ve never looked back. I was anxiously awaiting her sequel to The Winter King and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of The Sea King. And y’all. It was soooo good.

I am a huge fan of C.L. Wilson’s. I was always tended to shy away from fantasy romances because I found the fantasy lacking because the quest was all about the romance in the book, so I stuck with YA fantasy because those authors have been kicking serious tail and captivating us with their worlds. Then I read Wilson’s books. She does an amazing job of creating a fantasy world/realm that is very detailed. Her world building is fantastic, the cultures and back stories of the characters are so detailed. And the romance! Oh the romance! While there is a huge over arcing plot she never loses sight of the romance. The romance is very much a driving point in the story but executed in a wonderfully addicting way. The chemistry between her characters is red hot and the romance is sizzling. I am addicted to C.L. Wilson books. I re-read her books at least twice a year. Sometimes more. Her heroines and heroes are among some of my favorites I’ve ever read. And her supporting characters have me begging for their own books. So please, please, please Ms. Wilson give us allllll the characters and their own books!
Now that I’ve gone on and on and on about my love for Wilson let’s get to the good stuff:
Dilys Merimydion
The Sea King brings us back to Mystral by following one of Khamsin’s sisters, Summer, and the Sea King. Dilys Merimydion: hunk, dreamboat, bad ass, and all around perfect man. Y’all. Y’all. Dylis is well, there aren’t enough positive adjectives. He is literally the most dreamy character created. It was really refreshing to see a hero who views marriage with anticipation. He couldn’t wait to find his love, marry her, and dote on her forever. Ahem, is there anywhere I can find a Dylis of my own?? If Calberna was a real place you knoooooooow where I’d be living. When we got a glimpse of Dylis and his men in The Winter King, I knew I couldn’t wait to get my hands on his book.
Now that I’ve swooned about Dylis let’s talk about Summer. I have to admit that going into it I was a bit hesitant towards Summer. I know that she was never cruel to Khamsin, but she did see her sister suffer for years. Khamsin feels no ill feelings towards her sisters, in fact, she loves them very much, but I just couldn’t help but be a little bitter for my girl. Summer quickly erased my reservations though. She’s very close with her other sisters, The Seasons, but she is hiding a huge power. All Summer has known is that she must keep her gift a secret and she mustn’t use it. So when she meets Dylis, who makes her world spin, she panics and refuses his advances. I’ve gotta say, I got a little annoyed with Summer at times because she was so afraid of losing control that she kept refusing Dylis. I know the fear of her gift drove her, so I guess I can forgive it. Ha!
Much like TWK, The Sea King has dark plot lines. Without giving anything away, let’s just say that the later half of the book gets darker than I had imagined. I cried for Summer. Wilson doesn’t hold back when she writes, which is why her books are as captivating as they are. And in true Wilson fashion, I am DYING to get my hands on the next book. Like I said, I need every character to have their own book.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy and romance because it’s the best of both worlds! The Sea King isn’t even out yet and I’m ready for the next one. I’ll be over here impatiently waiting.
