The Viscount’s Christmas Temptation by Erica Ridley

Rating: 3 Stars ★★★☆☆

Lady Amelia Pembroke glanced up from the well-worn almanac in her lap as her brother, the Duke of Ravenwood, strode into the yellow parlor with a distracted frown.

Plot

Certain individuals might consider Lady Amelia Pembroke a managing sort of female, but truly, most people would be lost without her help. Why, the latest on-dit is that rakish Viscount Sheffield is canceling the fête of the year because he hasn’t time for silly soirees. He doesn’t need time—he needs her!

When a flash of lightning destroys the venue for his family’s annual Christmas ball, Lord Benedict Sheffield intends to enjoy a relaxing holiday for once. But after twelve days of beguiling Lady Amelia’s guerrilla tactics, he’s up to his cravat with tinsel . . . and tumbling head over heels in love.

Review

Lady Amelia loves to organize. She’s been responsible for her brothers estate ever since her mother died when she was fourteen. Now she’s nearing thirty and decides it is time to first find a husband, then a wife for her brother.

Her plan is to check out all suitable candidates at the annual Sheffield Christmas ball. But then she finds out that this year, there will be no ball.

“Nonetheless, while I recognize that I cannot fathom by what means you realize your various plans, I cannot think that one’s life love is to be found within the pages of a book.”

She snorted. “You might be susceptible to poetry and long walks in the garden. Falling in love is for people who don’t know how to plan.”

But Amelia is not someone to let a burned out ballroom get in her way. With only twelve days left to organize the biggest event of the season, she will need all of her skills to pull this off.

However, what she didn’t plan with was the beguiling Viscount Sheffield. A notorious rake, he’s also gorgeous and determined to show Amelia that there’s more to life than work.

It’s a really short book but it was very sweet. I liked the chemistry between Amelia and Sheffield. Sure, Amelia is a bit much sometimes. She just barges ahead, bowls everyone over who could stand in the way of her plans.

He held her tight. She was maddening and managing and by God was he going to make her his.

Her lips were warm, her mouth hot. She tasted like honey and peppermint. Her hair was soft beneath his fingers. He pulled her closer. His body was hard, every pore aflame. He had dreamt of this moment since he first met her. Had dreamt of her hair tangled in his fingers, her curves pressed flush against him. Now that he had her, he had no wish to ever let her go.

But their budding romance is really sweet and believable. Because the Viscount is not just standing there looking good (though he does a bit of that as well), he also does things to make Amelia relax and enjoy herself for a change.

Conclusion

A sweet, fun romance
