Top 10 Best Dakota Doney Songs

Seeing as I am the sole artist behind the inception of these pieces, I see little reason to expand upon the “grandness” of my own music, so I will keep reasoning for my ordering brief. The real reason I’m doing this is to give those interested a proper introduction to my discography in a palatable format that does not necessitate hours of listening. No reason to waste any more time, let’s get right into it.

Honorable mentions:

Truth – Force

Love – Into the Night

The Sun – Shadows of the Future

10. Let’s Dance – Force

Genre : Rock

This is a Spanish-tinged rock song loaded with dynamics. It starts with an oscillating and filtered Spanish beat but quickly explodes into power chords. The lyrical content explores a dance with death, and that fits thematically with the style of the song.

9. Prelude/Copy Right – Force

Genre : Rock

This song also can be somewhat explosive during the intro and chorus sections. The highlight for me is certainly the instrumental of the track, which I find to be one of the strongest in my entire discography. The verses, chorus, and solo all are unique, yet meld together effectively.

I listed the track Prelude along with it as well because it leads into the song, and they are meant to be played together. When combined, I think it adds a lot to the experience.

8. Guiding Light – Shadows of the Future

Genre : Light Pop/Rock

This song was clearly inspired by some of Jason Mraz’s early material, and it represents a more stripped back sound. It may very well be my best execution of a quickly-paced, yet laid back, song to date. The piano part is unique and melodic, and fits the song perfectly.

Also, it provides a simplistic yet tasteful acoustic guitar solo that accentuates everything the song is doing.

7. Force – Force

Genre : Rock

This is certainly one of my heaviest tracks, and I find every part to be strong, excluding the first half of the outro. Once the riff and the beat change half way through, however, it comes to life in the way I envisioned it.

As for positives, I am particularly proud of the chorus, where my vocals soar over a powerful riff, as well as the bridge where it breaks down into a rhythmic, bass-heavy jam.

6. Never Know – Shadows of the Future

Genre : Synth Pop/Rock

This was my most effective venture into synth territory, and I did so while incorporating some of my favorite elements of other styles as well. The song is dynamic, rhythmic, and contains falsettos and quick sections of pseudo-rapping. It’s not bogged down by the synths, and I think I can use this song as an effective guide of how to mix and write synth parts. There is no guitar in this song, yet it still feels almost like a pop/rock song to me, which I love.

5. Into the Night – Into the Night

Genre : Rock

This is true for all entries prior to the album Force, but unfortunately, this song completely relies on acoustic guitar. This, and the number one pick on the list, would have likely been drastically improved with an actual electric guitar to use, but because I didn’t own one at the time, I settled for distortion effects on an acoustic guitar. Thankfully, it still came out relatively well, but the song itself is very well written.

Additionally, this is certainly one of my best vocal performances, and it occurred all the way back in 2014/2015. I’ve improved a lot as a singer since then, but somehow this still is one of my most powerful showings.

4. A Very Special Girl to Me – Shadows of the Future

Genre : Pop

The poppiest song on the list was influenced by some of Avicii’s work while throwing a couple of my own flairs in as well. The bridge breakdown including saxophone and trumpet is a definite standout. It’s dark, but almost in a fun, dancey way.

3. The Last Breath – Shadows of the Future

Genre : Orchestral

Surprisingly, my most popular track by far is this orchestral piece that I made on a whim. It took no longer than a couple hours to create, yet has managed to more than quadruple the listens of all of my other songs on Spotify. Anyways, the track is highly cinematic, featuring only piano, strings, and a couple auxiliary horns. It is epic, yet still manages to be beautiful and melodic.

2. Awake – Blink

Genre : Pop

This is the only song on this list from my first album, Blink, mostly because the singing is sub-par on most of the album. Maybe the reason this song is better is because it features much less singing.

This track is a huge standout from all of my other songs, because it has hip hop tendencies, while remaining highly poppy. The rap-singing goes over surprisingly well, at least to me, and the instrumentation builds effectively.

1. Mind Control – Shadows of the Future

Genre : Orchestral/Rock

The only thing holding me back from praising this song more is the production. If I could redo the song in a professional studio, I feel like this song could bring me some recognition. Of course, my singing isn’t fantastic on the track either, but the instrumentation, lyrics, and sonic diversity in this 6 minute epic isn’t truly matched by any other songs I’ve written. If you haven’t noticed by now, Muse is a huge inspiration to me and I think this is the first song where I have truly done them justice by creating a song with them in mind, while still remaining unique. Also, that E-Piano solo is pretty awesome.
