WINTER PROTECTIVE STYLE FOR 2018

Hello beautiful!  It’s a new year and it’s time to set goals for ourselves. I’m natural and I normally wear my hair in twist outs during the week. This year I have decided to wear protective styles for the year. I am on a journey to waist length hair by the summer with hairfinity. So I figured if I wanted to retain length I needed to put it away for the time being. So the protective style of choice will be two strand twist. Two strand twist is versatile and easy to maintain throughout the week.

I can pull the twist back into a low bun on the days I don’t want my hair on my shoulders. Depending on the shirt I wear my hair will not snag on my clothing and break off. Since my hair will be in protective styles I will also have to keep my hair moisturized. I love the LOC method out of order and I’ll tell you why. The LOC method it leave-in, oil, and cream to moisturize the hair. I do not use the same order. I use leave-in, cream, then oil. I want as much moisture to penetrate my strands to put the oil on before the cream makes it hard for the cream/styling product to penetrate the hair. The oil acts as a barrier. So basically it’s not letting anything in or out. So, the same method just out of order.

If I ever decided to go to a gym I can put my hair in a top knot. This style is simple you can add a cute headband or hairpins to add another element to the style.

I wash my hair every other Friday. So may two or three days before wash day my hair has been stretched.  I will do two flat twists on my stretched hair. I normally will wear the flat twist a because my hair is detangled and ready for a wash. With this style, you can easily pull the hair back and pin it up to make a cut crown.

When my hair is stretched this far I will also pull the hair up either in a high bun or a low bun.

A flat twist is simple and quick once you get the hang of it. It took me some time to perfect my flat twist. So if you are having trouble youtube is the place to go for a hair tutorial on how to flat twist.

When wash day rolls around my hair will go back into the twist for the next weeks in a half leading up to the next wash day. After I wash my hair it’s back to the twist.

This is my 2018 protective style or hair care routine. It’s simple, low maintenance, and will keep my hands out of my hair. What are your hair goals for 2018??

As always stay beautiful,

xoxo,

Teniqua
