review 1: This book was a decent historical read, but I wanted more from it than there was. Cleo was selfish, to my way of thinking, only believing in one aspect of marriage, one of the worst ones she could. Logan was an unapologetic hero, but he was also a bit of a jerk too, only wanting Cleo's surrender. Neither of them attempted to understand the other, and yet they enter a marriage based on lust alone! I was not surprised she wanted to leave! It was entertaining enough for a Sunday afternoon, but I'm hesitant to read further in the series.
review 2: Cleo the illegitimate daughter of a status seeking father wants to marry an old geezer who cannot consummate his marriage. She has seen to much suffering as her mother gave birth to 14 children, many stillborn or w... moreho died in infancy due to little health care or food. Thus her resolve never to let emotions sway her. As she gets to know her father Jack, she begins to think he might car about her rather than just want her to help him attain a place in society. She meets a Scottish lord who also seeks marriage and although he needs her dowry he doesn't mind if Cleo is a bastard. He loves her but she is unable to get past her fears and live more than a half life. less
