WIP Wednesday

I’ve wanted to get my hands on a ball of Scheepjes Whirl for about a year now. Preemptively picking a colour and pattern to work with meant I could jump right into making as soon as I finally got my hands on a ball!

My preferred colour palette involves a lot of natural colours,  especially ones to do with the seaside or the ocean. So, rather unsurprisingly, I picked the ‘Minty Black Velvet’ colourway which is a gorgeous gradient of bright seafoam greens and the whites, greys and blacks of a pebbled Cornwall seashore.

I’ve been following the Dream Catcher shawl pattern I mentioned in my ‘Christmas Yarn Haul’ post and it’s coming out beautifully! It took me a little while to wrap my head around some of the wording in the pattern, and so had to frog it a couple of times but once you get it going most of the pattern is a simple block repeat of chains, v-stitches and slip stiches. This is lovely as it means I can work on the shawl on my way into work or while watching telly which is always a bonus.

My only real niggle so far is that the text on the yarn band specifically says “Each colour change is carefully tied in an optimum way to ensure the knot can be discreetly hidden within your stitches.”

The colour changes I’ve had so far look like this:

Which doesn’t necessairly look too messy, but certainly in such a lacy shawl, they are quite difficult to hide…

Otherwise, I’d definitely recommend getting a ball of Scheepjes Whirl if you’ve been thinking about it. The yarn is wonderfully soft, the colours are superb and the official patterns that you can get are gorgeous (and cheap!).
