Synopsis via Goodreads: When society tries to put you in a box, knock the walls down. –Tati Green
“You have a pretty face” is such a back-handed compliment. It’s like telling me that my face is beautiful, but the rest of me is not.
Despite what society says, my curves are hot.My love life, on the other hand, is not.
My mom says I’ll never find love because of my weight.
My sister says I’ll never find love because of my personality.
My almost-fiancé says I’ll never find love because I’m incapable of loving anyone.
My mom and sister are full of it, but my ex kind of has a point.
At twenty-seven years old, I’ve never been in love. I date a lot, yet sparks never fly. But when I experienced the heart-pounding, skin tingling feeling for the first time, I didn’t think it would be caused by a guy I’ve never met. And I damn sure didn’t think he would end up holding my future in his hands in more ways than one.
Work Song is a romance novel that was rec’d to me by one of my favorite bloggers, Britt over at Blissfully-Read. She is always raving about this book (go check out her fangirl review HERE) and I’m always down to discover new romance authors and if you’re looking for new romance authors to discover as well, then you NEED to check out Work Song!
Tatiana Green is a fierce and determined young writer who has dreams to make a name for herself as a sports journalist. She’s always put her career first and her love-life second, so when her ex-boyfriend dumps her after she rejects his proposal, she believes that love is just not in the cards for her. Fast forward to two years later and Tatiana is on the road to achieving her dreams. While on this road, she meets a few new people, including Wesley Barnes. Wes and Tatiana both work for the same company, just on opposite ends of the country. They’ve only ever communicated via emails, so when Wesley gives Tatiana his phone number one day, she decides to call him up and finds that she may have a slight crush on him. But when Wesley tells Tatiana that he will soon be moving to her side of the coast, things become complicated. Turns out love may be in the cards after all…
Work Song had my immediate attention right from the prologue. I’m not quite sure what it is, but there is just something about a romance that starts of with the female MC rejecting a marriage proposal that always grabs my attention and I know I’m about to laughing up a storm the next few hours. Work Song is an office romance with lots of steam and a dash of funnies and I had a very, very hard time putting down my eReader. I never been a fan of office romances, but lately I’ve just been reading some great ones and I’m starting to see the appeal of two people finding love in the workplace. I really enjoyed Allen’s writing and the way that each chapter would start off with little snippets from articles written by Tatiana, especially the ones relating to fashion and loving yourself no matter what. This book definitely rivals The Hating Game as one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE office romances and that’s saying a lot!
I FREAKING LOVE OUR TWO MAIN CHARACTERS! Tatiana is such a loveable character and I loved her personality and her lack of a filter. She is goal-oriented, driven and loves fashion and sports equally and is not willing to fit herself into the mold that society has tried to put her in. I absolutely admire her drive to make it ON HER OWN in a male-dominated field and the fact that she was putting her career first because I feel like there’s still a stigma that woman shouldn’t be so career-oriented, but wanting to be a successful and independent woman should be seen as a bad thing! Love will happen…and we see this when Wesley steps into the picture. WESLEY BARNES IS A BOOK BOYFRIEND TO ADD TO YOUR LIST! He is a smooth talker who will melt your heart with a just one look. Wes and Tatiana were made for each other and despite her hesitations and the few obstacles within their way, he was still willing to wait for her. I was cheesing so hard at their back-and-forth emails and their late night phone calls. I seriously couldn’t get enough of the cuteness and I didn’t want it to end. My favorite part though was the little switch-up Allen did at the end. I felt like it wrapped up this romance quite nicely.
Work Song is a slow-burning office romance that will have you laughing-out-loud, cheesing from all the cuteness and crying at the most perfect ending. I can’t wait to read Amelia’s book next to see what her story is all about and I’m hoping we get updates on Tatiana and Wes’s lives. Y’all really need to add this book to your TBR because it’s a hidden gem that deserves more love!
