Stephen King's The Dark Tower - Graphic Novel series
review 1: It's hard to know how people who haven't read the original Dark Tower series would find this graphic novel. It takes place during a journey that's not really explored in Stephen King's books. I enjoyed getting more time with Cuthbert and Alain, but I also think that it was not as much fun with Roland in a sort of coma throughout most of the action. Their wisecracking and squabbling were tempered by Roland most of the time. It was of course a quick read, but I wish it had been a little more in depth. Somehow I came away from it not feeling like all that much had happened.
review 2: Unlike the first book in the series, this one was all new material. Overall this was good. It continues the part of Roland's story after he left Hambry in the flashback portion of
... moreWizard and Glass. Other than mentioning Roland being trapped in Maerlyn's Grapefruit and Sheemie somehow following them home, not much detail was given in the original books about this Long Road Home, so the authors were kind of on their own as to what to do with the story. The story overall was good, but there were some things I kind of thought didn't fit into how I see the Dark Tower story as a whole...Sheemie and the Dogan and his new powers? The Crimson King being a descendant of Arthur Eld? I don't know. Also I'm not a huge fan of the whole graphic novel thing in general. There's just not enough actual "novel," and it's not as enjoyable as reading an actual book. less
