Yo-Yo Magic Highlights Week Activities at Library

There’s plenty going on during February vacation week at Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, highlighted by Yo-Yo People on Wednesday.

The library is closed on Monday, Feb. 20 in observance of Presidents Day. But there is a fun event planned for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the week.

John and Rebecca Higby will perform their yo-yo magic with high skill, energy, deft acrobatics, music and humor on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. The duo has performed on David Letterman, PBS Fetch, The Discovery Channel and in 18 countries. The event is designed for all ages, is free and open to the public. It is funded by the Friends of Hamilton-Wenham Public Library.

On Tuesday, the Children’s Book Group for grades 3-5 meets at 3 p.m. It will feature Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin. Minli, an adventurous girl from a poor village, buys a magical goldfish, then joins a dragon who cannot fly on a quest. The book group includes a reading from the book, a calligraphy craft, discussion and a snack. Copies of the book are  available in print, CD and eBook.

Tech Take Apart Thursday is on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. If you are curious about what the inside of technology looks like, this event explores the inner workings of everyday office and household items. Registration is requested by calling the library at 978-468-5577.

Peter Stewart’s Acoustic Open Mic is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. If you have musical ambition and bravado but are still a little shy about performing, this open mic session is just for you. Students, first-time performers and original music is particularly encouraged and registration is required by calling the library at 978-468-5577. Friendly, encouraging audience members are also invited to attend.
