The Cats and Curios Mystery
review 1: I think I would have enjoyed the humor and all round peculiar cast of characters more if I had read the first one in the series (this is the second). As it was, it was really confusing until well into the second half of the book. It didn't help that the short chapters switch points of view frequently and it's a little hard to keep everyone straight. Lots of recent and not so recent San Francisco political history, which was a plus for me, but might not be for everyone.
review 2: This is one of the strangest mysteries I've ever read. If it weren't for all the history of San Francisco's Cliff House and the ruined swimming pools I would have dropped it in disgust. There are frogs all over everywhere, there is a woman running around in a rubber mask and green go
... morego boots, there are secrets all over the place, there is a water-filled moat around city hall, there is hidden treasure (maybe) and there are cats. The cats I like, the frogs make no sense, all the foofarawing around in city hall makes no sense, and it's almost an insult to Mr. Milk and Mr. Moscone to use them in a plot like like this. The history is accurate, though, and I found some wonderful film and photos on-line, including a Thomas Edison film of the train run out to the Cliff House. I don't think I'm likely to read any more in this series. less

I enjoyed it, not as much as the first one but it was still a fun read. Looking forward to #3
