review 1: Like the other Richard Paul Evans books I have read, I finished this book wanting to know WHAT NEXT?! Ha ha! But I guess that is the telling of a good book, when you are so enthralled in a character and their life that you want to keep following them until the end of it. I love reading Evans' books because they teach you so much. Not just about life and/or morals (though I love these aspects of his books...) but I learn factual things, geographical things, things about the advertising industry - basically things I never would have known had I not read his books. And I like that! Not only do you have warm fuzzies in your belly from reading a feel good, happy ending (Spoiler?) book, but you leave it feeling a bit smarter, too! :)This was a story about Joseph Jacobson, or JJ ... morefor short, who was banished from his family business and hometown by his brothers, all for being a natural talent in the advertising business. It is amazing what greed and jealousy will make you do. He obliges, to protect another brother, and starts life anew in another city. He does well for himself, meets a woman he falls in love with, and then finds himself starting anew all over again in yet another city after being banished again! He also loses his love in a twist that I didn't see coming. But resilience and patience will make you a stronger person and Joseph proves that throughout this whole book. He really is somebody you can learn a thing or two from. I find that it's really a tale of coping and a teaching of forgiveness. Like I said earlier, Evans will teach you a thing or two! The ending is predictable, but its sweet. This is an easy read, one I picked up after reading a harder and lengthier novel, but that shouldn't discredit it in the least. I picked another one up at the library as I returned this one and I cannot wait to crack it open! Thank you, Richard Paul Evans, for writing these small masterpieces that effect me in such BIG ways! I appreciate that warm fuzzies it gives me. :)
review 2: the plot is like the bible story of Joseph and the colorful coat. the difference being that it is told with a modern twist. Jealousy, envy and forgiveness are still on the plate.the first 50 pages or so was not convincing for me. in this modern day how could such an absurd threat makes Joseph drop everything? I liked the part where Joseph met new friends and his adventures with April. however, I find that it is unconvincing on how Joseph acted after he knew the truth. if it is true love, wouldn't the next step be action instead of passively waiting?what I didn't like about this book is that it follows the plot in the Bible story too closely till some parts are hard to believe. I kept hoping that there will be something fresh to it. the only thing I find was April.overall I find this book was ok. maybe a bit more than ok.....love the part of Leo and the broken pots in the ending. less

Not my favorite Richard Paul Evans book but I did enjoy the quotes at the beginning of the chapters. From the perspective of a book club read there is more to discuss in the quotes than the story itself which is how I will approach it today for our discussion. It was a sweet story of loss, injustice, adversity and overcoming our trials. Not brought out in the book much is the fact that we are not alone in our trials. Our Savior is the healer of our souls.

Sooo, the Bible is not enough and we need the dumbed-down version?Well, this one is slightly better than some of his other books. Some things don't change though - like Tiffany product placements, wise old father figure, sickeningly sweet melodramatic tone and of course main theme of every book - petty problems of some poor little rich white boy. Not even problems, more like inconveniences.
