review 1: I liked this book. The protagonist starts off as a cocky, I know it all and am so amazingly powerful that I never met a bad guy I couldn't handle personality type; who quickly learns that she hasn't seen nothing and she doesn't know anything yet as the story unfolds. During this first installment of Eugenie's tale Mead gives her readers an enchanting new story world to explore and some very sassy new characters to enjoy spending some quality down time with. Eugenie is not only torn between two different worlds but also between more than one potential love interest while she not only works to keep some kind of normally functioning order within the mundane but also while she quickly learns the rules of engagement regarding another world in which most of the truth is waiting ... moreto be discovered. This combonation of plots and subplots is exactly why I have become more interested in reading books instead of watching TV and movies predominantly and Mead has woven her magic over me once more with the Dark Swan series :)
review 2: I've made a clichés test for urban fantasy series. How cliché is your book ? Well, Storm Born got a score of 19/35. A score which means it's not exactly great, but not completely unbearable. All the clichés related to stories involving the otherworld and " fae" kingdoms are here: heroine is half fae but didn't know that, she has great elemental powers and her non-human father also was legendary because of his powers. Since we're in the trashy kind of story about the otherworld, there is a prophecy saying that her children will destroy humanity, so everyone in the damn otherworld wants to sleep with her. Two notable paranormal guys interested in her are Kiyo, a kitsune (which in this book is basically just a were-fox with a japanese name) and Dorian, a fae king with a bondage fetish. There are also less delicate male fairies (because fae is basically just a invented replacement word for fairy) and something about the disappearance of a human girl going on. Because you see, like all heroines in those kind of books, our protagonist, Eugenie is a shaman, she deals with nasty creatures from the other world every day, especially when those kidnap humans. Sure, it's a plot you've already seen many times. While I don't think this is as good as other Richelle Mead books (I'd say it's even the most common she's ever written), I… don't hate it. It's still a pretty enjoyable book. It may be Mead's funny and energetic writing. Or I just have a thing for crazy monsters of all kind. It's, you know, one of these fun and not complicated reads. Though the point is, did I like it or not ? Yes, i liked it, but not loved it. It's just something to read when you have time to kill, and if you need every Richelle Mead book or story and the otherworld and its faes. less

I'm eager to see where Eugenie's power is going to lead her.
