review 1: tl;dr Dan and Amy are orphaned siblings who mostly abhor each other, until their grandmother dies and her will sends them on a rat race against other relatives who are hateful and greedy enough to actually kill them.The characters aren't that great. Amy is a fragile older sister with phobias of seemingly everything but books/librarians, and Dan is an angry, mischievous doofus of a little brother with a photographic memory and random spurts of brilliance who is still emotionally reeling inside from the loss of parents he can't remember and a grandmother who died and turned his back on him and his sister. Everyone else is downhill from there.What I liked was how fast-paced everything was, and reading about the clues they found. Not a believable story in the slightest (I've n... moreever seen National Treasure but have heard the two works are similar) but I read through book one in about 3 sittings so it definitely kept my attention. People exploring and finding random cool artifacts is usually exciting, and even if it shares that theme with lots of other supposedly better stories, those other stories may not necessarily fit the same readers. Reluctant readers looking for an action-packed series based on people in history might really get into this one.
review 2: I think this was a very good start to the series. I loved how they used history with this book and it really sets the tone for the rest of the books. However,it was a bit slow at the beginning and I feel like one of the plot twits, I suppose is what you could call it, happened a bit to soon and I would of liked to have more of that character (kind of a spoiler I suppose but not a massive one). This is why I couldn't give it 5 stars. less
