Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Graphic Novels
review 1: As Percy Jackson was rescuing two orphan children in an alley, when he was ambushed by Dr. Thorn, who informed them of “the great stirring” – an awakening of the Titans and the ultimate monster, who will cause Mount Olympus to fall. In a rescuing attempt by Annabeth, Grover and later, The Hunters, led by Artemis (Goddess of the Hunt), Annabeth vanished over a cliff. Shortly after this, Artemis hurried off to hunt a dangerous monster on her own. Percy, the children and the Hunters made camp and was visited by Apollo (God of the Sun) who took them back to Half-Blood Camp. The next day Percy was visited by an Oracle who tells him that Artemis needs to be rescued and about a prophecy that must be fulfilled. A team is assembled to search for the two missing girls. T... moreheir adventures takes them across the country, facing such foes as: The General, skeleton warriors, a Nemean Lion, a Titan and a Manticore. Before having a final confrontation with Atlas (God of War). During a celebration on Mount Olympus, Percy and his friends are reminded that many dangers are still out there, and a revelation is revealed that may change the reign of the Gods for ever. An epic adventurous tale, exciting and captivating for those who are familiar with Greek mythology and a sometimes humorous but enticing introduction for those who are not. A well told story, quick in pace with wonderful illustrations which depict the story beautifully. The dark, heavy colors used makes the grandeur of the Gods come to life. The Titan’s Curse is the third installment in the Percy Jackson series and is touted as one of the best. This series leaves you anxious for the next issue as well as awakening your imagination and igniting a fascination to learn more about Greek Mythology. I would recommend this book to children aged 10-14.
review 2: Book 3 of the Percy Jackson series has been put into graphic novel format. The very barest bones of the story are covered in this adaptation, partly by necessity due to the nature of the format. However, the illustrations do add some of the detail back in - as long as you are willing to look closely enough to differentiate the characters. Some characters, like Grover, are very clear and easy to recognize, but others can easily be confused or mistaken. Graphic novel readers will pick it up just because of what it is, and Percy Jackson fans will pick it up but lament at how much is lacking. less
