review 1: This one's hard to rate. I didn't quite like it, but didn't dislike it either. It didn't feel like a whole, complete story. Even considering it's the first book in a trilogy. Much as I don't like doing so many half stars, 2.5 stars seems right, being exactly at half way point between 0 and 5.The beginning was very promising. I was immensely interested and impatient to know more about Kian. That's probably why I'm feeling kinda disappointed at the rather abrupt ending.
review 2: 3.5... I swore I'd never do half stars, but this one was tough for me to rate so I'm breaking my own rule. I really liked the world RJ created for this story, and fully intend to read the rest of the trilogy, but at the same time, it is so difficult to read a fantasy setting in a shorter
... more format -- some parts of it felt rushed, especially when Kian explained his world and his quest to Regan. Also, there was Insta-Love, or destined bonding that I personally struggle with as a romantic theme.Overall, however, I enjoyed the feel of the story -- there isn't enough internal magick in M/M (that I've found), and the Insta-Love was handled well by both characters (I won't go into more on that because it was mostly at the end of the story, so SPOILER. *grin*) The magic/Fire was interesting, as was Regan's Hunter ancestry. I suspect the rest of the series will be fun to read, and give me more of the magic that I want.EDIT (1/20/2012) -- Now that I've read most of the trilogy, I have to say that these stories do each other better justice as one long read. In true fantasy style, you can't read one without the other because the real story is that which spans all three books of the trilogy. Think of the Fire Trilogy as one long book, with three parts or volumes. I highly recommend reading them all at once.(I usually wait in between books in a series, but for this one, don't do that.) less

Interesting universe. Liked the book but only three stars as it's way too short.
