review 1: 3.5 Stars out of 5 Stars This is definitely not about a kid in a chocolate factory. Expertly written, and read with the ease of having a social conversation, this short story follows a man for about ten minutes from when he sits down at a hotel pool to when he ends up in a strange, small man's hotel room as playing referee for a bet. What is the bet you ask? If you think you could light a lighter ten times in a row then you might consider it. But what's the cost? Oh, not much ... just your pinky finger off your left hand. This story immediately reminded me of Four Rooms, a movie set on New Years Eve in a hotel. In one of the rooms a bet is taking place. Will you light a zippo ten times in a row or will you loose a finger? Funny ... I wonder if Tarantino took a page (or in ... morethis case a story) from Dahl's book. In any case, this quick read is a must for anyone looking for a short story to read. Especially someone who loved twist endings. I didn't see the twist coming, but it was definitely my favorite part.
review 2: There are certain horror stories that frighten you and there are certain others that makes you feel sick. This story belongs to the second group. Great plot-betting one's own finger for a lighter.! But I guess people do more stupid things. The story was good. It had an intense feeling and the sense of desperation. The ending was simply perfect. Wonderful in many ways, this one is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. less

A story about a betting game; a finger for a car.
