To You, 2017

Dear 2017,

It’s been a ride.

Let’s start with January.

The new year was ushered in with cross country skiing and quality time with friends close enough to be family. The sun shined bright for us and the cutest little cabin kept us warm at night where the main form of entertainment was Settlers of Catan and crocheting hats and blankets, the perfect evening if I do say so myself.

Oh and I can’t forget the ol’ X Games adventure in Aspen, CO. It was a great couple days of watching pro skiers and snowboarders (and wishing yet again that I could be as cool as them one day), car camping in 10 degree temps, and teaching Sophia how to ski.

February brought hammocking and cold hikes up Horsetooth Mountain.

My freshman spring break was in March.

Dad and I went to Moab for part of the week and I got to see Delicate Arch for the first time (even though I practically grew up in Arches NP).

Dad and I also had a father-daughter beach getaway to Boca Raton to visit Jenn, Mike, and all THREE of my beautiful little nieces and nephew.

April… well, April was a weird in between month. But the basketball games were awesome!

May included the annual CSU Undie Run and Cinco de Mayo festivities. I also celebrated Mother’s Day with my favorite ladies, cuddled with my doggo, and did some hiking!

June contained some hiking and a trip to Minnesota for the Sherrick family reunion!

July was the month of my 20th birthday and some hiking with my Momma!

August was the start of my Sophomore year and living in my first apartment. I also got to see Young the Giant with my friend Sophia at Red Rocks!

In September, some friends and I went to the Rocky Mountain Showdown where we witnessed a sad loss to the Buffs but had a fun time nonetheless. I also went on an amazing camping trip to Crested Butte and met many wonderful, outdoorsy people!

In October, I went on another great trip with the Outdoor Club to the Great Sand Dunes NP! I also celebrated Halloween with friends and went as King Julian from Madagascar.

November brought lots of amazing home cooked food and a girls trip (+ Alexander) to Telluride.

In December, I went home for part of winter break and hung out with family and old friends.

And of course, there were all the little moments in between these highlighted memories that truly made this year as great as it was. There were some rough points in the year, no doubt but overall, I am so grateful for every bit of 2017. I have learned so much about myself and how resilient we are built to be. So happy new year everybody! Here’s to another trip around the sun!

Love,

Kianna
