review 1: I liked this book ... was a little too violent for me. Crais's hero Joe Pike needed his tires inflated which led to his getting involved in a crime. Two gangbangers layed into a sandwich shop across the street and naturally Pike had to see what was going on. The victim wouldn't press charges and then the FBI got involved. That made Pike a target and from there on it was madness. The truth finally surfaced though. This book was just OK for me.
review 2: I always like the adventures of private eye Elvis Cole and his partner Joe Pike, lots of action and suspense and mystery and murder. This one is particularly full of death as Joe and Elvis are almost the only ones left alive at the end of the book! Two supposed Hurricane Katrina evacuees end up in CA wher
... moree Joe steps in to protect them. So why don't they want his help? Why are they not who they say they are? Secrets and deception abound. less

Terror. I thought with Cole's dream, Pike was going to meet his end.
