review 1: Maybe it's just me, but Kirkman's world (and perhaps the comic world in general?) has always seemed just a tad big misogynistic. Maybe that's my own misinterpretation. Maybe the fact that all the strong female characters are just taking what they want when they go after a man...but it sometimes seems like he's making them into women who can't be alone.So it was only a matter of time until we reached a New World Order with a self-crowned messiah who has himself a lingerie wearing harem. Is it a male fantasy? Or is it realistic? I tend to think it's the latter. After all, there are plenty of cult leaders with harems here in the real world. So that's sure to be a thing in the zombie Apocalypse. On a whole, this story isn't as exciting as some of the volumes that came ... morebefore. But I enjoyed the continued development of the latest scary bad guy, Negan. Also known as the sociopath with a harem and a bat and a hot iron. Other than that, not much happening. Very little killing. And certainly no pulse pounding action. This one is kind of a table setter, I suspect.
review 2: I know the genre of the comic is horror, but they are getting almost too graphic and violent for my taste. That aside, I hope that the authors have somewhere for the characters to end up or a way to round out the story nicely. Meeting a new threat, eliminating it, and moving on to a new threat again and again is getting old. I will keep reading the walking dead because I'm too invested in the series now to give up, but I'm looking forward to some new twists and turns. less
