review 1: I have a soft spot for books where heroines who swear vengeance against men then fall in love with their enemies. It a guilty pleasure. So, after Cruel Beauty, this little gem called Grave Mercy was so awesome. But Ismae's story was NOTHING compared to Sybella's.Compared to Ismae, Sybella's story is far more darker and worthy. While Ismae whined and moaned, Sybella actually got things done! I loved that her story was less about falling in love with a guy and more about accepting herself--demons and all and making the best of a bad life and family. She was a true badass. I adore her.The abbess is a giant bitch. I wanted Sybella to kill her. I really did. I wonder what her deal is. What does she actually want?It was gritty and dark and just about the most epic of them all. I... more don't honk the last book will measure up to this. I liked that it was so intense and still fast paced. I especially loved Julian. No matter what, he was a true sweetie. Just a little touched in the head--like ALL the d'Albret's. Great job, Lafevers. Kudos.
review 2: 4.5 stars! I enjoyed this book more than the first book in the series, Grave Mercy. This story is much darker and more personal showing the painful history of Sybella's life. There were many turns/twists throughout the story, and the relationship between Sybella and Beast was touching. He is not the typical "good looking" Hero you would find in a story, but he more than made up for it with his compassion, devotion and love for Sybella. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Mortal Heart. less
