review 1: I know a lot of people can be put off by these books, but it is their style to be more in your face and less apologetic. It's in the title. I knew what it was going in. I think a lot of the reviews here forget their approach. Also, it has been my experience that no one wants to hear the truth about US food industry and especially dairy. So right off the bat, most readers are in defense mode when they begin reading any book that deals with vegan or vegetarian content. To me, the book was funny and like the authors repeatedly say, they are not here to be your friend, nothing will be wrapped up in satan sugar. Now a confession I go in and out of being vegan (luckily and unfortunately at the same time I have no vegan or even vegetarian friend to chide me and look down on ... moreme for this!). This book reminds me why I became vegan and why I need to go back. In terms of being pregnant and vegan, it has some good information but I would have liked it to more detailed. As someone who is at least always vegetarian and at times vegan I know all about the ugly truths concerning animal food products. I wanted more on already being vegan and being pregnant or thinking about pregnancy. The other critique I would give this book is that it is extremely heterosexist - it assumes everyone is in a hetero relationship and furthermore married!!! There is no excuse for that nowadays, just because the authors are hetero does not mean they have to place those assumptions on their readers, it is easy enough to use gender neutral langauge. Besides all the aforemention issues, I think it is worth a read if your'e pregnant or think about being pregnant and vegan, it is a super quick guide.
review 2: In preparation for pregnancy I want to know what to do BEFORE pregnancy because I feel those first few weeks in which you don't know you're pregnant is a crucial time for the baby. I thought this would be a nice change from the standard stuff I was reading. However, I was very dissapointed. Very dissapointed. Not worth the time for me to read it. I agree it is essential to alter what you put in your body while expecting but this was over the top for me. less

Absolutely the worst diet book ever put out as confirmed by my dietician husband.

somewhat offensive and found that the recommendations were not evidence based.
