Blurb from goodreads:
Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met… a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.

But all that changes when the Lynburns return.

The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown—in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the-Vale is suddenly posing. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depths of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she still love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him?

My thoughts:

Look at the beautiful cover and the awesome blurb. I totally judged this one on its cover. However, I was a little hesitant to try another Sarah Rees Brennan’s books. Tell the wind and Fire was the first book I read by her and it turned out not to be as good as I expected. But, I decided to give this series a try.
This book gave me all kinds of ‘Beautiful creatures’ vibes; it is written by Kami Garcia and our protagonist’s name is Kami. This thought just kept popping in my head. However, I gave up on ‘Beautiful Creatures’ series after the first book.

Characters:

I liked all the characters, Kami’s friends, and her family. All of them were so loveable and diverse. They brought life to the story with their own uniqueness and humor.

Kami, our female lead is such an optimistic, witty and determined little ball of curiosity. She makes all the rational decisions and had a level head all the time. I was expecting her to make some reckless decision and do usual cliché stupid things that YA female leads usually tend to do. But, she really made me believe in female protagonists in YA again. She was a total bad ass.

It was great to see her relationship with her parents and her younger brothers. They are present throughout the book and they are a functional family, they actually care about her. It’s been kind of rare in YA books that I have been reading.

Her dad is really awesome!
