review 1: I just finished Heart of the Shepherd and was very impressed. It is powerful, deeply moving, thought provoking....and funny in the right places, too. I came across this book somewhat by accident (it was paired with one of my books on Amazon) and picked it up out of curiosity. I'm glad I did. Heart of the Shepherd not only has contemporary appeal, it is also a fine work of children's literature.
review 2: This is an emotionally compelling book. It was hard for me to read out load to my son without my voice wavering from time to time. It finally distressed my son so much that he was afraid that the father would die while being deployed, he insisted that I stop reading it to him. I finally finished the book on my own. Grab a box of tissues when you read this book.... more It's very truthful telling of life in a military family. less
