review 1: Muslim Voices book. Read this in two sittings. I really liked the emphasis on the value of reading & learning. I thought it was interesting the main character noted the way she or others would look down on people and for which reasons (differences in moral values, cleanliness, status, etc). Some parts of the books would be difficult to understand as there were a scattering of Arabic (or Farsi?) words throughout. I thought it was interesting we are never told which year it is beyond American soldiers are there and the fighting was ebbing. I don't recall the narrator giving a strong statement about an opinion on the war/ invasion beyond the sadness of people dying and comments on property destruction.
review 2: I didn't realize that this book was based on a tru
... moree incident until I read the author's note. How could someone of that age go through that much? I feel for all those girls in Afghanistan who have no control of their own life. I enjoyed the funny parts of this book and I was saddened by the tragic parts. I liked this book overall and I am going to read a recommendation from my math teacher called "Breadwinner". less
